6th May to 3rd June ‘War Brides : Promise & Sacrifice’ Maureen McCormick This American artist daughter of a war bride from Swinstead tells her mother’s story in paint. To coincide with the 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.

Maureen was born in Swinstead and emigrated with her mother to the USA in 1945. Since qualifying and raising her own family, she worked as an artist in Massachusetts, California and France. Maureen now lives in the suburbs of Chicago, shows and sells paintings and teaches.

Maureen will be in England from 1 May until 6 June. She is willing to give short talks to schools and/or answer any questions school groups might have for her by email or Skype (if not in person). She is also willing to speak to local groups who might be interested in her work for a minor speaker’s fee.

Among other examples of Maureen’s work, images of the loneliness of the war bride in her new surroundings will honour her mother and the women whose lives were completely changed by the war.
